Sam Houston State senior tight end Corey Roberts was named as a first-team selection on the 2005 American Football Coaches Association Division I-AA Coaches’ All-America Team.

Roberts led Sam Houston State in receiving with 42 catches for 485 yards and five touchdowns. The senior from Carthage, who converted from wide receiver to tight end during his sophomore year, completed his Bearkat career with 89 catches for 1,006 yards.

He is the 17th player in Sam Houston State history to gain more than 1,000 yards receiving. Roberts also was a first-team All-Southland Conference selection in 2005.

“This is an outstanding honor for Corey. He certainly deserves it,” SHSU head coach Todd Whitten said. “Corey was one of our go-to guys this year and his leadership will be missed.”

Roberts and Texas State-San Marcos defensive lineman Fred Evans were the only Southland Conference players named to the AFCA Division I-AA Coaches’ All-America Team.
