Huntsville High School has made a pair of promotions within its athletics department.
Head volleyball coach Cody Hassell was recently named assistant athletics director and girls coordinator, while John Fuller has been promoted to head tennis coach.
Hassell — who will still coach the volleyball team — takes over for Jennifer Kober, who is leaving for a job at Del Valle High School.
“Cody is very deserving,” Huntsville athletics director Rodney Southern said. “It's something he wanted. I actually interviewed him for it the last time (the job was open). He's already started in that role by helping coordinate the girls side of strength and conditioning.”
Fuller succeeds former head tennis coach Mike King, reclaiming a title he’s previously held at the school. Fuller was the team’s head coach when Southern arrived at Huntsville in 2014.
“He was the head coach, got out of coaching for a couple years, then came back as an assistant,” Southern said. “We've promoted him to the head tennis coach, and he's actually looking for an assistant now. ... He has a son that plays football and baseball, and a daughter that plays volleyball and softball. I think he's kind of wanted the job back for awhile, and he did a good job this spring as Mike was transitioning out.”
Huntsville has also hired Fallon Johnston to lead the school’s cheer program, a role previously filled by Kober.
