Joan Marie Hensley of New Waverly, Texas passed away at her home on Saturday, March 15, 2008. Mrs. Hensley was born to Stanley and Mary (Billnoske) Vernarske on January 6, 1930 in Walker County, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Jerome Vernarske, and sister-in-law, Mary Evelyn Gibbs.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Thomas, sister-in-law, Frances Vernarske, brother-in-law, Elmer Hensley and wife Pauline, sister-n-law, Therea Folse and husband Russell, and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Hensley was a life-long resident of New Waverly, Texas. After graduating from New Waverly High School, she worked at Milliff Restaurant. She later began working for New Waverly State Bank in the early 1960’s and retired in 1990 after 28 years of service. Mrs. Hensley was a life-long member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she taught Christian Education and helped with the youth group of the Parish. Joan and Thomas had ten the opportunity and joy of seeing each of the 50 states and many foreign cities around the world. Her faith and positive attitude helped to carry her through her four-year battle with a serious illness.

A wake is to be held in the chapel of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville on Monday night, March 17, at 7 p.m., with a rosary to follow. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 18, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with interment following in Shepard Hill Cemetery.
