A local man was arrested for drug possession after being found asleep at an intersection in downtown Huntsville.
Authorities were dispatched to the 1500 block of 11th Street around 4 a.m. Tuesday morning following a report of a driver asleep at the busy intersection. Police asked the driver and passenger to exit the vehicle and noticed they were both intoxicated, according to reports. Officers searched the vehicle and found a vape with THC oil and additional vape cartridges in the backseat.
“This was a dangerous situation for the community and the suspect,” HPD Lt. Landrum said. “Officers did a great job handling the situation.”
The suspect – identified as Ashton Riggans – was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and is currently being held in the Walker County Jail. No bond has been set at this time.
