Police are on the lookout for a suspect who robbed a local gas station clerk at gunpoint Monday night.
Authorities say a man entered a Smiley’s Gas station, located in the 1000 block of Interstate 45 around 10 p.m. asking about an energy drink in an attempt to distract the employees. The suspect then brandished a handgun, telling the clerk to open the safe.
The clerk was unable to access the safe and opened the register, with the suspect making off with a small amount of money and fleeing the scene.
“We have processed the scene and are currently investigating the incident,” HPD Lt. Jim Barnes said. “We encourage anyone who may recognize the suspect to contact us.”
If you recognize the suspect, contact HPD detective Mark Jenkins at 936-291-5480 or the Walker County/Huntsville Crime Stoppers at 936-294-9494.
