Authorities are looking for a suspect who evaded police early Wednesday morning following a high-speed chase.
Just after midnight, officer Bryant Wells II with the Huntsville Police Department attempted to pull over a silver Honda that failed to signal a lane change, but the suspect would speed away, according to Huntsville police. Police say the vehicle fled from US 190 to dirt roads on Four Notch Road before heading north on Interstate 45 near the Sam Houston statue.
Huntsville police along with the aid of the Walker County Sheriff’s Office placed spike strips to halt the high-speed chase. Police say the suspect went through the spike strips and continued to drive until he ran his vehicle into a tree.
After hitting the tree, officers say the suspect took off on foot and has not been seen since. Officers searched the abandoned vehicle, finding a small amount of marijuana and prescription drugs.
“We have not made an arrest yet, but we do have a suspect in mind,” HPD Lt. Jim Barnes said. “I would like to thank the Conroe Police Department, UPD and WCSO for their help.”
