Plane crash in Walker County

A small plane crashed in a pond off FM 980 north of Huntsville on Tuesday morning. A Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson said they believe the pilot was killed in the crash. It is unknown at this time if anyone else was on board the twin-engine Cessna 421.

A dive team has recovered the body of the pilot of small plane that crashed in a pond off FM 980 north of Huntsville on Tuesday morning.

A spokesman with the Texas Department of Public Safety said it is not believed that anyone else was onboard the two-engine Cessna 421 at this time.

The identity of the male pilot has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the pilot reported oil problems and a possible engine fire before the plane went down behind a residence in the 700 block of FM 980 just north of the Canyon Ranch subdivision in the Pine Prairie community around 10:40 a.m.

The plane crash landed in a field before coming to a rest upside down in the water. Flames were visible on the wreckage.

Officials said the plane was traveling from Conroe to College Station. The National Transportation Safety Board will conduct the investigation into the crash.
