A young New Waverly woman was killed Sunday morning when the car she was driving was hit by two other vehicles as it went through an intersection in Grimes County. Two other people — passengers in the other cars — were also killed in the wreck.
At 11:37 a.m. Sunday, a 2012 Hyundai driven by 20-year-old Nicole Lauren Billnoske was traveling south on FM 2562 near FM 149 East. Entering the intersection, Billnoske apparently did not yield to two other vehicles and was struck.
A 2011 Volvo, driven by 33-year-old Erika Anderson, of San Antonio, hit Billnoske’s car on the driver’s side. Then a 2013 Volkswagen, driven by Bryan’s Jill Diane Markowski, 55, struck Billnoske’s car on the passenger’s side.
Diane Markowski was transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Bryan and was later released. Her husband, 56-year-old Stephen Markowski, did not survive the crash. A passenger in the Volkswagen, Keith Raymond Donle, 66 of Bryan, died at St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan.
The crash was investigated by Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Russell Gallo and officers with the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office.
Billnoske graduated from New Waverly High School in 2015. A softball player for the Lady Bulldogs’ team, Billnoske was also involved in FFA. She earned grand champion honors for her hog at the 2015 Walker County Fair.
“Nicole was such a sweet, sweet girl with a great head on her shoulders,” New Waverly teacher Alex Abbott said. “She had so much drive for a woman her age. I don’t think she had a mean bone in her body.”
