David D. Harris of New Waverly has been named the newest State Trooper in Walker County.

Harris graduated from the Texas Department of Public Safety Training Academy on March 27 after a 28 week training program.

Harris studied more than 100 law enforcement areas at the academy, including counter-terrorism, traffic and criminal law, accident reconstruction, firearms training, criminal interdiction training and physical fitness training.

Colonel Stan Clark, Director of the DPS, addressed the graduating class, including Harris, at the graduation ceremony.

“It’s an exciting day for you and your families,” he said. “You are now a part of one of the finest law enforcement agencies in the country. You will be on the front lines protecting the citizens of Texas, who will expect you to act with the highest integrity. Make all of us proud.”

Following his graduation, Harris was assigned to the Texas Highway Patrol station in Huntsville, where he undergo six months of on the job training with a senior trooper.
