Immunovax, LLC — a Texas immunization provider — will be available during this week’s Huntsville Independent School District pre-kindergarten and kindergarten round-up events.

Immunizations will be offered in the Gibbs Pre-K Center library today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Thursday at Huntsville Elementary from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

During the events, any student or adult who needs immunizations required by the state will be allowed to receive them for a cash fee.

“All state-required immunizations will be provided this week during the HISD pre-k and kindergarten round-up events,” said Mance Park Middle School nurse Margie Eglsaer.”Not only will our young students be able to receive immunizations, but any adult or child who needs an immunization will also have the option available to them.”

Eglsaer said pre-kindergarten students, kindergarten students, and sixth-grade students entering the seventh-grade during the 2009-10 school year, should be especially aware of immunization requirements.

“There are a lot of immunization requirements in place for this year’s kindergarten, pre-kindergarten and sixth-grade students,” she said. “The new set of required immunizations for sixth-grade students, for example, includes the Meningitis immunization, the Tdap immunization and the Varicella immunization.

“Approximately 400 sixth-grade students in our district need to have those shots before next school year, and this would be a really great opportunity for them to get those before the year begins.”

Immunizations will be available for $14 for one immunization, $20 for two immunizations and $25 for three or more immunizations.

Eglsaer said a child with current or valid Medicaid coverage will receive the immunizations for free with proof of the coverage.
