The United Cultures Diversity Committee has been meeting monthly for close to a year now, but Monday night’s meeting will be their first as an official nonprofit organization.

“We want to inform the public that all of our paper work has been completed,” committee member Mary Vela Novark said. “We are a non-profit agency, we’ve issued our mission, our strategy and our core values, and a lot of that will be explained at our next meeting.”

The meeting will take place Monday night at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church, located at 1530 10th St., across from Samuel Walker Houston Cultural Center.

In addition to discussing the details of the organization, they will also be going over preparations for next year’s Festival of United Cultures and how to get the youth of the community involved.

“We are encouraging youth participation in the annual community festival,” Novark said. “Those kids were great this year and we are also encouraging them to sponsor diversity events at the high school.”
