A Huntsville resident was seriously injured when he became a victim of a hit-and-run accident while riding a bicycle Wednesday evening.

According to the incident report, a 27-year-old man was traveling north in the 1000 block State Highway 75 about a quarter of a mile from the Brookview subdivision about 9:50 p.m. when his bike was struck from behind by a pickup truck, pushing him off the road into the ditch. The victim was transported to Conroe Regional Medical Center where he was treated for a broken leg, a concussion and numerous lacerations and scrapes.

The driver of the truck, which Huntsville police believe is a mid-2000s model Dodge, fled the scene without stopping to check on the victim, who was not sure what color the vehicle was.

“All the driver of the truck had to do was stop because this could have just been an accident,” Lt. Jim Barnes with the Huntsville Police Department said. “Now, the driver could be facing a felony failure to stop and render aid charge. Whenever a large object like a bicycle or an animal is hit by a vehicle, it makes a lot of noise and you can feel the impact. This could have been a lot worse than it was.”

Anyone with information concerning the hit-and-run accident is asked to contact the Huntsville Police Department at (936) 291-5480 or Crime Stoppers at (936) 294-9494.
