With 10 days remaining before the seventh annual Shot in the Dark Golf Tournament and Helicopter Golf Ball Drop, 135 golf balls had been purchased as of Tuesday afternoon.
The Huntsville-Walker County Chamber of Commerce is hosting the event April 24 at Raven Nest Golf Course.
Laura Green, events and communications manager for the Chamber, said 23 teams have signed up to play nine holes of golf during the day and nine holes after dark.
Openings remain for five teams.
Registration is $380 per team and includes green fees, golf cart, glow-in-the-dark accessories, dinner and refreshments.
Check in is at 3 p.m., tee off at 4 and dinner between the two rounds.
Green said with 135 golf balls sold “the odds of winning are good right noiw.”
She said 465 golf balls are available to be sold.
A portion of the proceeds benefit the Huntsville Leadership Institute.
Green said golfers and non-golfers can purchase golf balls and win the first place prize — a 52-inch LCD Sanyo TV and $500 gift card from Able Ammo & Brookshire Brothers; or second place — a $500 gift card from Sears of Huntsville.
Golf balls are being sold at one for $10, six for $50 and 13 for $100.
The balls will be dropped from a helicopter around 7 p.m. on the driving range during the tournament and the first in the hole or closest to the hole will win.
The Helicopter Golf Ball Drop is sponsored by Randall Reed’s Hillcrest dealership while the golf tournament is sponsored by First National Bank of Huntsville.
