Working off a tip from an ongoing investigation, authorities were able to recover drugs and a stolen firearm and take two men into custody at a Huntsville residence Friday morning.
The Huntsville Police Department's SWAT team executed a search warrant in the 3000 block of Old Houston Road at approximately 9 a.m. They seized 1.7 ounces of marijuana, an undisclosed amount of cash and an AR-15 assault rifle that had been reported stolen.
Officers arrested Arturo Peralez III, 20, and Xavier Faison, 19, on charges of possession of marijuana under 2 ounces. Faison was also charged with theft of a firearm.
"The continued cooperation between the Huntsville Police Department and the community resulted in the removal of illegal narcotics and the recovery of a stolen firearm from the streets of Huntsville," Police Chief Kevin Lunsford said Friday.
Theft of a firearm is a state jail felony, which carries a punishment of 180 days to two years in a state jail facility upon conviction. Possession of marijuana is a Class B misdemeanor and carries a punishment of up to six months in jail and a fine not to exceed $2,000.
