DAR celebrates Constitution Week

The Mary Martin Elmore Scott Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met Tuesday, Sept. 20, at Elkins Lake. Pictured left to right are Gene Roberts, Jr., JD, EdD, Danny Pierce, Walker County Judge, and Regent Jenny Schwetman. 

It is Constitution Week in Walker County, as proclaimed by Judge Pierce to Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) on Tuesday, Sept. 20, with Regent Jenny Schwetman and other members present. The annual ceremony was followed by a fast-moving and informative presentation by Gene Roberts, attorney and mediator. Roberts is Director of Student Legal and Mediation Services at Sam Houston State University. His topic was on “The View of the Courts by Our Founders.”

In other business, Regent Schwetman thanked Judge Pierce for his many years of service to Walker County. Caroline Crimm, chapter chaplain, swore in new member Sandy Smith Thomason. The group was honored to have State Regent Shirley Bland, Texas State Recording Secretary for DAR, visiting the chapter.
