Best Bets may be submitted through e-mail at Items must be received by 1 p.m. to run the following day. Your Best Bets entry may not appear more than five days in advance of the event because of space constraints.

Huntsville Hornet Tickets

Season Tickets for the Huntsville Hornet and Lady Hornet Varsity Basketball District Home games will be available in the Business Office located in the Hawkins Administration Building  from now until Friday, Dec. 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets for Hornet boys and Hornet girls seven-game basketball season are $25 each. Season tickets for both Hornet and Lady Hornet basketball season, including all 14 games, will be $45. For more information, contact Sherry Odom at (936) 293-2562.

YMCA Itty Bitty Sports Program

The Huntsville YMCA will be conducting an introduction to basketball and soccer skills class beginning in January 2011. The program is offered to kids who turned 2 or 3 as of the beginning of September of this year. The program will feature two basketball clinics and one game and two indoor soccer clinics and one game over six Saturday sessions.

The  YMCA basketball season will run from Jan. 8 through Feb. 8. Registration fee for this program is $50, with scholarships available through the NMS & J2 Memorial Scholarship Fund to introduce this program to the community in memory of Jason Tyrell Stewart II in honor of his love for the YMCA sports programs. The Huntsville High School Yearbook is on sale for the one-time only, special low price of $55 until Monday, Dec. 13. Tree of Angels

The Walker County District Attorney’s Office will host its annual Tree of Angels ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, at the Walker County Storm Shelter, 455 Highway 75 North in Huntsville. The event honors the surviving victims of violent crime and victims’ families and friends who are invited to put an angel on this special Christmas tree.

Roark Retirement Party

There will be a retirement party for Judge Lloyd Roark at the Justice of the Peace Pct. 3 office on from 3-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 14. Attendees may come and go as they wish. The office is located at 2986A Highway 19.

Huntsville Christian Women’s Luncheon

The Huntsville Christian Women’s Connection invites women of all ages to its “CWC on the Road” Luncheon on Thursday, Dec.16, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Texas Prison Museum Conference Room on 491 Highway 75 North, sponsored by Stonecroft Ministries.

Complimentary child care will be provided for mothers with young children.The guest singer will be Latrelle Lindon and a special feature with Jim Willet, director of the Texas Prison Museum.

Early Dismissal for HISD

Huntsville ISD would like to remind all parents and students that this Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, will be an early dismissal day.  All campuses will be releasing at 2:00 PM for the holiday break.  Parents need to please make the necessary arrangements for this early release time.

HMH Blood Drive

Huntsville Memorial Hospital is hosting a community blood drive Wednesday, Dec. 22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in its Education department.  All blood types are needed. Donors must provide identification, such as drivers license or student ID card.  For more information, call  (936)291-4552.

Preschool Story Hour at the Library

The Huntsville Public Library hosts Story Hour every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. This complimentary program promotes emergent reading skills for preschool-aged children. Story Hour includes stories, songs, dance and finger plays and concludes with a craft activity.

Waste Pick Up

The City of Huntsville Solid Waste Division will not be collecting heavy trash on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010.  The next pickup will be Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011.
