Huntsville Hornet Tickets
Season Tickets for the Huntsville Hornet and Lady Hornet Varsity Basketball District Home games will be available in the Business Office located in the Hawkins Administration Building until Friday, Dec. 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets for Hornet boys and Hornet girls seven-game basketball season are $25 each. Season tickets for both Hornet and Lady Hornet basketball season, including all 14 games, will be $45. For more information, contact Sherry Odom at (936) 293-2562.
YMCA Itty Bitty Sports Program
The Huntsville YMCA will be conducting an introduction to basketball and soccer skills class beginning in January 2011. The program is offered to kids who turned 2 or 3 as of the beginning of September of this year. The program will feature two basketball clinics and one game and two indoor soccer clinics and one game over six Saturday sessions.
The YMCA basketball season will run from Jan. 8 through Feb. 8. Registration fee for this program is $50, with scholarships available through the NMS & J2 Memorial Scholarship Fund to introduce this program to the community in memory of Jason Tyrell Stewart II in honor of his love for the YMCA sports programs. Christmas Tree Sale
Boy Scout Troop 98 is selling live Christmas trees through Sunday, Dec. 19, or until all trees are sold. The trees will be sold at Brookshire Brothers on 11th Street and Normal Park, Monday through Saturday until 8:30 p.m. and on Sundays from noon to 7 p.m. Trees are selling for prices ranging from $20 to $85, with all proceeds going towards sending they boys to camp, buying and replacing needed equipment and funding awards given to the Scouts throughout the year. HCT seeking directors
Huntsville Community Theatre is seeking directors for its 2011-12 Production Season. Experience is required to direct. Submissions are requested by Jan. 15. While submissions will be accepted beyond this date, priority will be given to those submitted by Jan. 15, if your proposal fulfills the vision and needs for our season. ‘Songs of the Season’ matinee
Huntsville Community Theatre will offer a matinee presentation of its annual Songs of the Season holiday fundraiser concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, at the Old Town Theatre. The concert will feature performances by the Huntsville Community Senior Adult Choir, the Huntsville Men’s Choir and the Belle Chanson Women’s Choir, as well as featured solos by Melanie Holliday and Dani Gathright. The Walker County Historical Commission will meet on Monday, Dec. 20, at 5:30 p.m. at the Gibbs-Powell Home Museum, 1228 11th St. All are welcome to attend. Christmas refreshments will be served after the business meeting.
An Evening of Christmas Music
The Belle Chanson Women’s Choir will present “An Evening of Christmas Music” on Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Huntsville. The concert will benefit the SAAFE House. There is a reception following the concert.
HMH Blood Drive
Huntsville Memorial Hospital is hosting a community blood drive Wednesday, Dec. 22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in its Education department. All blood types are needed. Donors must provide identification, such as drivers license or student ID card. For more information, call (936)291-4552.
Waste Pick Up
The City of Huntsville Solid Waste Division will not be collecting heavy trash on Wednesday, Dec. 22. The next pickup will be Wednesday, Jan. 12.
Preschool Story Hour
The Huntsville Public Library hosts Story Hour every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Due to library construction, all story time programs will be moved to the council chambers at Huntsville City Hall until further notice.
