SHSU MEN'S BASKETBALL — Bearkats sign Jamal Wlliams

HUNTSVILLE — The Sam Houston State men’s basketball team announced the signing of Houston Episcopal High School guard Jamal Williams.

Williams, a 6-4 guard, will join the Bearkats next season.

“We are extremely excited about the signing of Jamal Williams,” said head coach Jason Hooten. “We felt from day one in the recruiting process with Jamal  that he could be a freshman who could come in and play. Because of his ability to defend and handle the ball, he can contribute right away.”

This past season, Williams averaged 24.3 points per game, 8.1 rebounds, 3.4 steals and 2.6 assists. He was a two-time all-conference and all-state selection.

Williams was also on the top 25 watch list for the Guy V. Lewis Award, presented to the top high school basketball player in the Houston area.

“He is a great student, a great person and will be a guy everyone will enjoy to watch for four years,” Hooten said. “He has tremendous upside and will be a player who will continue to get better.”

Williams joins Albert Almanza of Austin Saint Stephens High School and Josh Delaney of Killeen Harker Heights, who signed with the Kats during the November early signing period.
