HUNTSVILLE BASEBALL — Hornets fall 4-2 to Magnolia West

HUNTSVILLE — Huntsville could not get past Magnolia West on Monday night and fell 4-2 in the District 18-4A matchup.

Magnolia West opened up with three runs scored in the first inning, putting the Hornets in a deficit they were unable to overcome.

For Huntsville, it’s the fifth straight district loss, as the Hornets are still searching for their first district win of the season.

They will get that opportunity tonight on the road against Waller.

Huntsville head coach Brad Bohannon said the attitude has to remain positive to help the team get out of its funk.

Bohannon has talked about trying to establish and develop good, winning habits that could help Huntsville’s baseball team become successful.

“If you look at our district, with the exception of Brenham, teams are playing each other so close,” Bohannon said. “Hopefully things will turn on. I’d like to think that if we could just get that first one, maybe we can get something going.”

The Hornets runs came in the fifth inning when Brad Shirley hit a sacrifice fly ball and Dezmen Johnson also had an RBI.

Drayton Pittman pitched 4 1/3 innings for Huntsville, giving up six hits, four runs (three earned) and walking four. The Hornets recorded four errors on the night.
