SHSU WOMEN'S BASKETBALL — Bearkats cruise to 87-56 victory in season finale against New Orleans

HUNTSVILLE — Seniors Jasmine Johnson and Nyha Carter completed their Sam Houston State women’s basketball careers by leading the Bearkats to an 87-56 victory over New Orleans on Saturday afternoon.

Johnson scored 18 points and added seven assists. Carter totaled 16 points and pulled down seven rebounds.

The Bearkat women ended the season at 13-16 and completed Southland Conference action with an 8-10 mark.

Angela Beadle scored 12 points and led both teams with 11 rebounds. Jazmin Wiley added 13 points and six boards.

Sam Houston never trailed, jumping out to a 13-0 lead in the first five minutes and going up 49-20 in intermission.

The Kats led by as many as 43 points in the second half.

Octavia Wilson led New Orleans with 13 points as the Privateers finished the year 0-29.

    Never before has there been Stars of Huntsville Softball Camp, and it’s not every day that Huntsville’s youth softball players have an opportunity to learn the game’s fundamentals from the town’s most experienced players and coaches.
    On Monday, nearly 25 campers took the field at Kate Barr Ross Park and were instructed by Huntsville Hornets softball head coach Rick Burns and several members of his team.  The players, coaches and campers battled through the heat to have a successful day that saw many of the campers receive one-one-one instruction.
