BREAKING NEWS — Fritz leaving Sam Houston State to take over at Georgia Southern

HUNTSVILLE — The Item has just confirmed from Willie Fritz that he is in fact taking the Georgia Southern job.

A press conference is scheduled Friday in Statesboro, Ga., in which Fritz will be introduced as the next head coach of the Eagles.

“I have taken the Georgia Southern job,” Fritz said. “It was a difficult decision. My heart and soul is with Sam Houston State. You don’t know when opportunites are going to present themselves.”

Over the last four seasons, Fritz accumulated a 40-15 with the Bearkats. He led Sam Houston State to the FCS national championship game in the 2011 and 2012 regular seasons as well as leading the Kats to back-to-back Southland Conference championships.

Be sure to check out Friday’s Item for more information.
