Ten Huntsville basketball players suspended

— Ten varsity basketball players at Huntsville High School were suspended Monday for breaking team rules, according to Hornets coach Larry Carlson.
Carlson said the suspended players would miss three weeks of games, but they would be able to continue practicing with the rest of the team. Carlson did not say what his players did to warrant the suspension.
“They were suspended by school administrators and it’s out of my hands,” the coach said Monday night. “They broke team rules, so they’ll be suspended for three weeks from athletics. They’ll still be in school and everything will be fine.
“Everybody makes mistakes. These kids made a mistake. It’s a little bump in the road, but we’ll be fine.”
The Hornets play tonight at Oak Ridge. Carlson moved up five of his junior varsity players to join the four varsity players who were not suspended. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
This weekend, Huntsville plays in a tournament at Beaumont Central, then on Dec. 8 they play at Houston Baptist. The Hornets next play at home on Dec. 15 against Crockett. They also play host to Tomball on Dec. 19.
The District 18-4A season does not begin until Jan. 2 when the Hornets travel to Waller.
