Bulldogs, Tigers set to battle for area bragging rights

The New Waverly Bulldogs suffered a heartbreaking loss last week, falling to Lexington 23-21. That loss dashed the Bulldogs’ playoff hopes.

With two games remaining, including tonight’s rivalry game in Trinity against the Tigers (3-5 overall, 0-4 in District 26-2A), the Dogs (3-5, 1-3) look to finish the 2007 season with pride.

“What we’ve been working on is finishing,” New Waverly head coach Ken Craig said. “We want to finish what we started. We want to finish strong because there is a lot we have accomplished up to this point in the season.”

While the Tigers have been on a skid as of late, the Dogs expect to have a competitive game on their hands tonight.

“We expect to see Trinity’s very best,” Craig said. “They’re looking at us as an opportunity to win a ball game. They’re just like us. They want to win football games. They want to have success and feed off that success just like we do.”

In district play, the Tigers have had success moving the ball down the field and running back B.K. Harvey plays a big role in that. In their four district games, the Tigers average 218 yards of offense a contest. In comparison, Harvey averages over 100 yards a game running the ball which accounts for nearly half of Trinity’s offense.

“They move the ball against everybody they play and they play everybody we have,” Craig said. “It should be an emotional and an intense game. It should certainly be fun to watch.”

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
