The big boys who will anchor Huntsville High School’s offensive and defensive lines this fall are staying busy this summer, working on team chemistry and winning championships, too.
Last Saturday, five Hornets finished first in the 2009 Lufkin Panthers Lineman Challenge. Marquel Kizzee, Quentin Tucker, James Vannette, Bridge Blount and Forbes Baggett teamed up and brought home the championship trophy from the event.
By finishing first, the Hornets also qualified for the Texas Lineman Challenge, scheduled July 8 in Duncanville.
“Our kids had a blast,” Huntsville assistant football coach David Cooper said. “They competed very well, and they also worked on building team unity.”
According to Cooper, Tucker was the top performer at the Lufkin competition. Blount was the No. 2 performer and Baggett was No. 3.
“They did different drills like the team truck push, sled pull, farmer’s walk carrying 135 pounds in each arm, medicine ball toss and the sand bag run,” Cooper explained. “We did very well and look forward to the state lineman challenge.”
