LAKE CHARLES, La. — The Cowboys ran and ran and ran some more. They ran circles around Sam Houston State on Saturday.
Running back Toddrick Pendland waltzed into the end zone three times in the first half, then capped a 14-point third quarter with a 23-yard scoring run to lift McNeese State to a 63-42 victory at Cowboys Stadium.

  • Golden week for Americans
The United States held off a hard charge by Korea on Saturday in the final round of The Spirit International Amateur Golf Tournament.
When the day was done, the U.S. claimed gold medals in the International Team competition, the women’s team competition and the individual women’s competiton. Young Lexi Thompson was the tournament’s top female player.

  • Huntsville senior runs his way to state meet
Huntsville’s Jeremy LaDay can’t put his running shoes on the shelf yet. He’s got one more race to run before he can start playing basketball full-time.
On Saturday in Humble, the senior ran a personal-best time of 16:33 at the Class 4A Region III cross country meet and finished seventh in the boys race. That earned LaDay a spot in the Class 4A state meet, which will be held Saturday in Round Rock.

  • New Waverly cross country ready for regional meet
Last week, the New Waverly cross country made some history when both the boys’ and girls’ team qualified for the region meet for the first time after finishing in third place.

  • Focus on the present
The Hornets know that tonight’s regular-season finale has no bearing on their postseason plans. Huntsville, which clinched a playoff spot with a victory over Magnolia two weeks ago, is headed to the Division I, or big-school, bracket to meet Buda Hays in a bi-district game next week.
