Mary Loyce Allen, 85, of Lufkin, was born Feb. 7, 1923, in Nacogdoches County, Texas, and she passed away Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at her residence.
Mrs. Allen was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was retired from the Lufkin Independent School District and was a member of the Lufkin Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star Rebekah Lodge and the Retired Teachers' Association.
Mrs. Allen was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Carolyn Porter of Douglass; daughters and sons-in-law, Georgia LaNell and Thomas Elmer of Huntsville and Regina Gail and Mark Johnson of Madisonville; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Pauline Stephens of Lufkin; sister-in-law, Hallie Allen of Lufkin; brother-in-law, Norman Ross of Lufkin; and a number of nieces, nephews and other family members.
Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar L. Allen; sisters, Jo Nell Ross and Dollie Ruth Ross; and son-in-law, James Lee Porter.
Pallbearers will be Wesley Porter, Lewis Jay Porter, Christopher Elmer, Jimmy Lee-Allen Elmer, Mark Anthony Johnson Jr. and Shawn Grace.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dakota Porter, Joel Traylor, Micheal Grace, Andrew Abernathy Jr., Lantz Greer, Mason Elmer and Zane Elmer.
Services for Mrs. Allen will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Bill Bailey officiating.
Interment will follow in the Wallace Chapel Cemetery.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
