Charles William Reed

— Charles William “Bill” Reed, 95, passed away Aug. 31, 2012, at the Rouse Home of Warren County, where he resided the past nine months. He was born in Ridgeway on July 24, 1917 to the late Ruth Dickey and Rollin Amos Reed. On June 12, 1948, he married Ruth Anna Eckert who preceeded him in death on Aug. 16, 2006. He is survived by his four children, March (Michael) of Kersey, PA, C. William Reed Jr. (Alex McIntyre) of Henrietta, NY, Donald Reed (Kate) of Warren, PA, and Carol Reed of Huntsville, TX. He is also survived by three grandsons, Michael Keller (Dawn) of Harrisburg, PA, Aaron Keller (Jessie), and Dane Reed of Warren, PA. Also surviving are a brother, J. Franklin Reed (Dorothy) of Newville, PA; sisters, Helen Olson (Art) of San Jose, CA and Betty Hatfield of Horseheads, NY; many nieces and nephews; and his “other daughter,” close friend Noreen Wiegand of Kersey. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Kathryn Cowart, Max Reed and Elizabeth Reed.

Bill was a lifelong resident of Ridgway graduating from Ridgway High School and the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science with a BS degree in Pharmacy. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the First Medical Laboratory, working in blood banks in North Africa and throughout Europe. He served on a special assignment to Dachau Concentration Camp upon its liberation to help treat survivors for Typhus.

Bill was a pharmacist at Cliffe’s Pharmacy in Ridgway for 36 years, retiring in 1986. He then worked as a relief pharmacist as the Elk County General Hospital and for several area pharmacies for several years.

He and Ruth loved traveling, particularly to Texas and Williamsburg, VA. They loved spending time with their children and grandchildren, and always enjoyed the company of their Doberman Pinschers. Bill enjoyed stamp collecting, photography, gardening, camping, reading, model railroading and compiling the family genealogy.

Bill was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church of Ridgway where he served as a ruling elder among many other capacities. He was a 60-year member and past president of the Ridgway Lions Club and was a Melvin Jone Fellow, a charter member of the Montmorenci Fire Company where he served as secretary for many years, a life member and past president of the Elk County Historical Society, the Ridgway Library Association, a Master Mason with the Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania, the International Order of Odd Fellows and many other organizations.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 119 Center Street, Ridgway, PA. Memorials may be made to the Ruth Reed Nursing Scholarship Fund, Elk County Community Foundation, PO Box 934, St. Marys, PA 15857, or the Friends of the Rouse, 701 Rouse Avenue, Youngsville, PA 16371, or a charity of choice.

    Betty Charlene Wooderson, 83, of Huntsville, Texas, passed away July 28, 2014. She was born September 9, 1930, in Franklin, Texas to Ralph Tribble and Idella Johnson Tribble.
    Betty is survived by her daughters Gail Lloyd and Mona Lamb and husband Rick; grandchildren Courtney Helton and husband Mark, James Lloyd, Reed Lamb and girlfriend SaraBeth Ellisor, Greg Landry and wife Pamela, and Cara Wilcox and husband Andy; great-grandchildren Wyatt Helton, Samantha Landry, Gregory Landry, Aidin “Nola” Landry, Olivia Keefer and Christopher Wilcox; sisters Linda, Barbara and Odell. She is preceded in death by her husband Waymon Wooderson; parents Ralph and Idella Tribble.
    Betty loved her grand and great-grandchildren most in life. She has left many cherished memories of family events over the years. She loved to be out visiting with friends. And football season she would call to check in and see what time the Dallas Cowboys were playing and had a love for the local Sam Houston State University football team. In her down time she liked to read and sew. Betty retired from TDCJ after many years of service.
    The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 30, 2014, from 12:00 PM (Noon) till 2:00 PM with service to follow visitation at 2:00 PM at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas. Interment will follow the service at Adickes Addition of Oakwood Cemetery in Huntsville, Texas.

    Charles Darwin Sewell passed away on July 18th, 2014 at the age of 78. He is survived by his four daughters: Lisa, Patra, Pamela, and Sandra; their husbands, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. There will be a graveside service held at Bowden Cemetery on Crow Mountain, Russellville, Arkansas, on August 8th, 2014 at 1:30 pm.
