Phyllis Cummings
Phyllis Cummings of Huntsville passed away on June 18, 2009. She was born on Feb. 22, l925, in Monticello, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her granddaughter, Marla Linville.
Mrs. Cummings is survived by her husband of 65 years, Alvin. She leaves behind to cherish her memory: her son, David Cummings and wife Cheryl of Riverside; daughter, Deanna Wickes of Conroe; son, Danny Cummings and wife Vickye of New Braunfels; and daughter, Debra Cummings of Victoria. She has seven grandchildren: Todd, Kyle and Erin Cummings; Glenna Stewart; April Finney; and Chad Cummings; and three great-grandchildren: Christian Rodriguez, Cassidy Cummings and Colby Finney. She is also survived by two brothers, Joseph Spurling of Onalaska and Jack Spurling of Wellford, S.C.
Mrs. Cummings taught in the Victoria and Bloomington school districts for 22 years. After her retirement in 1983, she and her husband moved to Huntsville where she enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling, crafts and social gatherings with family and friends.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville. A graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at Hayman Cemetery in Coldspring with Dr. David Valentine officiating.
