Ruby Sayles Combs

Ruby Sayles Combs was born Jan. 24, 1917, in Shallotte, N.C. She passed away on Mother’s Day, May 11, 2008, in Huntsville, Texas, at the age of 91.

Ruby was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Henson Combs Jr; her parents, Mary Adeline and Henry Hewitt; and siblings, Victoria, Galloway, Josie and Henry.

Ruby is survived by her son, Charles Henson Combs III and wife Patty; son, James Douglas Combs; and son, Gregory Elliott Combs, his wife Linda and their children, Melina and Gregory. She is also survived by Christi, Carly and Mason Calhoun; a host of nieces and nephews and special friend, Betty Reagan.

Ruby was a member of the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and was active in church programs until bested by health problems.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, May 14, at 10 a.m. at the Adickes Addition of Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home.

Ruby’s family would like to thank the ER, ICU and second floor nursing staff at Huntsville Memorial Hospital for their care and support. They also thank Dr. Khan and Dr. Smith for their assistance and guidance. And a very special thank you goes to all the staff at Ella Smither Geriatric Center for their months of love, friendship and care.
