Shirley Hays McDougald

Shirley Hays McDougald passed away on May 1, 2008. Shirley was born on June 12, 1934, to Lawrence and Alline Foster Hays in Houston, Texas. She moved to Bryan in 1945, where she graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1952. She met and married her high school sweetheart, Johnnie L. McDougald, on May 10, 1952, in Caldwell, Texas. They had three daughters and a son. Later they moved to Navasota where they lived for nine years and then on to Huntsville in 1969.

Shirley was employed by Huntsville National Bank and later for the Walker County Clerk’s office and Walker County Title Company. She retired from Billingsley Parts and Equipment in 1991.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Hays and Alline Chance; step-father, T.D. Chance; and grandparents, Jack and Jewel Gray and William and Laurence Hays.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 56 years, Johnnie McDougald; daughters, Kathy Hanson and husband Mark of Bastrop, Gay Perry and husband Jud of Anderson, and Peggy Raley of Huntsville; son, Tra D. McDougald of Huntsville; and step-daughter, Brianna McDougald of Houston. Also surviving are grandchildren, Wayne Hutchins, Jason Kelley, Scott Orr, Jamie Kelley Smith, Brian and T.J. McDougald, Colton McDougald, and Josh Lee; five great-grandchildren, Rayburn and Katy Smith, Mackinzie Orr, Graci Kelley and Hailey Mae Skaggs also survive. Also surviving are brother and sister-in-law, Buddy and Patsy Chance of Bellville.

Services for Mrs. McDougald will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 5, 2008, at Huntsville Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery in Navasota, Texas, with the Rev. Reagan Cooksey officiating.The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, at Huntsville Funeral Home.
