Former high school rodeo champ Brody Beaver dies

HUNTSVILLE — From the rodeo arena to the silver screen, Brody Beaver knew how to make an entrance.

All too suddenly, Beaver made his final exit in the early morning hours Wednesday. Beaver, 20, son of eight-time World Champion cowboy Joe Beaver and Jenna Head Beaver, owner of Frameworks and Art Gallery in Huntsville, passed away suddenly at his home in Huntsville.

Joseph Broderick “Brody” Beaver attended Huntsville High School and graduated in 2009. In 2002, he played a role in the film “Grand Champion,” which starred George Strait, Joey Lauren Adams and Emma Roberts. In ‘09, he became a national high school cutting champion, following in his father’s footsteps. Riding a 14-year-old bay gelding named Ali, Brody made it to the national boys cutting championship at the 2009 National High School Finals Rodeo in Farmington, N.M.

He received a trophy saddle, buckle and scholarship to attend Weatherford College.

By midday Wednesday, the Joe Beaver fan page on Facebook was filled with condolences for the family.

Jamie White, a friend of Brody’s since their freshman year of high school, said she broke down when she heard the news of his death.

“I just talked to him on Monday,” she said. “We were going to hang out sometime this week because I hadn’t seen him in months.”

White described Brody as a good friend and a fun person to be around. “Social,” was the one word she said described him best.

“He liked to have fun,” she said. “He liked to make other people happy before himself.”

White said her focus now is hoping and praying the family can find some measure of peace.

“I hope they appreciate each other,” White said, “and hold on to what they have left.”

Brody was born Nov. 20, 1990. He is survived by parents, Joe and Jenna Beaver of Huntsville; maternal grandparents, J.J. and Willie Head of Huntsville; and paternal grandmother, Bonnie Beaver of Victoria.

Funeral arrangements are pending with Sam Houston Funeral Home in Huntsville.

For many young children, seeing a parent behind bars can be a traumatizing experience.
Unfortunately, the young people often become the victims in cases dealing with imprisoned parents.
The Episcopal Diocese of Texas has worked hard to give these young folks a place where they feel accepted and can share their experiences with others who are going through the same pain.

Rousing, impassioned, inspiring cadences are designed to birth a soldier. However, what elements are in place for the rebirth of a civilian who has had their “blood chilled,” and made to cry?
