Item collecting donations for holiday food, toy drive

HUNTSVILLE — To give Walker County residents more time to help those in need this holiday season, The Huntsville Item’s circulation department is now accepting donations for its annual toy and food drive.

Stop by the Item at 1409 10th St. and pick an angel, which includes wish lists for area children, adults and families, off the circulation department’s window.

Food, toys and gift cards can be dropped off at the Item now until Dec. 21 and staff members will see that the donations get to those who need them.

“We decided to start early this year so people could take advantage of Black Friday shopping,” said Polly Johnson, The Item’s circulation manager. “We feel that if people can get good deals on shopping specials then we will get more people to donate.”

As a token of appreciation, The Item will print a special thank-you page on Christmas Day, which will include the names of people who have donated to the toy and food drive.

For more information, contact Johnson in the circulation department at (936) 295-4911.
