WALKER COUNTY FAIR: Pro rodeo is right around corner

HUNTSVILLE — The first weekend of the Walker County Fair starts with a first-rate professional rodeo or two.

Stace Smith, producer of the Walker County Fair’s pro rodeo, has received the PRCA Stock Contractor of the year award each year from 2004 and 2013.

This will be the seventh year for the Stace Smith Pro Rodeo in Walker County.

The bullfighters or clowns who protect the cowboys are worth the price of admission on their own.

If you are new to our area, this is an event worth attending.

If you are an old-timer, you know the quality of the livestock and the cowboys who compete for the big prize money at the Walker County Fair and Rodeo.

This will be the 25th year of Pro Rodeo for Walker County. Last year the Walker County rodeo placed fifth for Best Small Rodeo in the United States by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.

During the week before the two evening performances of the rodeo, cowboys enter slack competition to earn their place in the competition if they are not already eligible.

Events include steer roping, barrel racing, bucking horse and bucking bull riding.

There is even an opportunity to “buy a bull rider.” This program raises scholarship money for Walker County High School seniors.

A tax-deductible donation of $50 will randomly pair the donor with a pro rodeo bull rider.

If your bull rider scores the highest marked ride during that performance, the winning donor will receive a beautiful belt buckle.

This is a great way to support the youth of Walker County! Donations of $50, made payable to WCFA Rodeo Committee, should be sent to 1300 11th Street, Suite 630, Huntsville, TX 77340.

In the event that more donations are received than bull-riding contestants, extra donors will be placed in a random drawing for an additional buckle.

Donors need not be present to win, but it is much more fun to cheer on your bull rider in person.

For additional information, call Susan Mott at (936) 291-1002 or (936) 661-8285.

The hard work of the WCFA Rodeo co-chairmen, Kevin Green and Jessie Johnson, will make this year’s rodeo a success for all competitors, sponsors, youth and visitors.

Come out and join the fun April 4-5th at the Walker County Fairgrounds.
