Man arrested following stabbing

By Matthew Jackson
Staff Reporter

A Huntsville man was arrested Tuesday night and charged with aggravated assault after allegedly stabbing another man on a street just off Smith Hill Road.

Horace Moore, 47, was taken into custody and interviewed by police late Tuesday after witnesses and a victim identified him as the assailant.

At approximately 10:45 p.m. Officer Justin Schubert was dispatched to the intersection of Roosevelt Street and Mary Avenue in Huntsville after receiving a call of a reported stabbing in the area.

The victim, 31-year-old Roland Gillaspie, had fled to a nearby home shortly after the stabbing, where the residents had called 911. He was found with a single stab wound to the back and was airlifted to Hermann Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Statements given by the victim and several witnesses pointed to Moore, and an investigation revealed that, after an argument between the two men, Moore had stabbed Gillaspie once in the back and fled the scene.

After positively identifying him as a suspect, investigators on scene notified patrol units, who were able to locate Moore in the area of Julia Avenue. He was taken into custody and transported to the police department to be interviewed, where he confessed to the crime. He was immediately transferred to the Walker County Jail.

It is unclear what caused Moore to stab Gillaspie. An investigation is still underway to determine the events leading up to the assault. Gillaspie was expected to be released from the hospital Wednesday.
