Huntsville man charged with theft

By Matthew Jackson
Staff Reporter

A Huntsville man was arrested Thursday and charged with theft in connection with the burglary of a local home last month.

Thomas Henry Fossing, 59, was arrested shortly before 8 p.m. by Huntsville detectives in the parking lot of a local Dollar General store while he was allegedly preparing to deliver the firearm to a stolen firearm to another individual.

Before his arrest Fossing was an HPD suspect in the burglary of a home on Old Houston Road on Oct. 13.

A television set and a total of nine firearms of various makes and models were taken from the residence.

According to Detective Marvin Hyvl, who was assigned the case, several tips called in to the police department pointed to Fossing and one other possible suspect who has not been named.

A tip to the HPD on Thursday informed Hyvl of Fossing’s intent to deliver a stolen weapon that evening.

Several members of the HPD Criminal Investigations Division, including Hyvl, went to the location and observed it in undercover conditions.

When Fossing arrived he was arrested and found to be in possession of a firearm matching the description of one stolen from the Old Houston Road residence.

Hyvl said the continuing investigation has resulted in the recovery of six of the nine missing weapons.

Hyvl also said the HPD will continue pursuing a second suspect in the case, but declined to name any persons of interest.
