36-item agenda faces county court

By Jay Ermis
Managing Editor

A 36-item agenda faces the Walker County Commissioners Court when it meets in special session at 9 a.m. today at the courthouse.

The five-member court is once again scheduled to review rules and procedures for lease of the county storm shelter.

The court reviewed the exhibit hall policies and use fee schedule of the storm shelter at its Oct. 6 meeting, but tabled any action until some details are worked out.

Policies cover application process, alcohol policy, animals, automobiles, cancellations, cleaning, cooking/catering, decorations, deposits, event accessibility, fire code, first aid, insurance requirements, security, kitchen use and move-in and move-out.

The HEARTS Veterans Museum is in charge of leasing rooms or the entire building and will have tables and chairs available for groups to rent.

Tom Oleinik, who is the complex director for the museum, said the museum has a set of policies when leasing the storm shelter and county Commissioners Court has its own set of policies.

Oleinik and commissioners both agreed to meet and formalize one set of policies, but those policies can be changed at any time.

They also decided to talk with law enforcement agencies before setting an hourly rate regarding a security fee.
