The event will begin at 7 p.m. and will be held at the Samuel Walker Houston Cultural Center at 1604 10 St.

The foundation has named Ressie Echols, Julie Stewart, and Christian Flowers as this year’s scholarship recipients. Each student will receive a scholarship of $1,000.

The event will also honor local humanitarians. Huntsville Mayor J. Turner, Bernidine Oliphint, Rissie Owens, and Dr. Carol Parker will all received humanitarian awards.

The foundation will also give out “Legends” awards to the late A.L. Cox, Willie Jerry Jones, George King, Voydene Hackett and Joseph Castille.

The guest speaker will be Col. Samuel R. Douglas of the U.S. Air Force, a native of Huntsville and son of the foundation’s namesake, Roxie Douglas.

After graduating from Huntsville High School in 1979, Douglas went on to study at Grambling State University, Air Command and Staff College, and Air War College.

Douglas has served at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. as well as overseas in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Qatar, and Turkey.

The event is open to the public and tickets will be sold up until the event at the price of $25.
