New Waverly approves Waste Management bid

The New Waverly City Council approved a bid from Waste Management to service households in the city during a regular meeting Tuesday night.

Waste Management’s bid was approved unanimously over two other bids.

The company’s bid included an $11.51 charge per household, $4.19 per cubic yard and $10 per month for a locking container.

“We decided to go with Waste Management because not only were they cheaper, but they were a company we used previously,” Mayor Dan Underwood said following the meeting.

In other action, the City Council approved an amendment that updated and balanced the 2007-08 budget.

The approval of budget amendment No.1 updated figures from when the budget was written last year.

“Approving this amendment was necessary due to underestimation in services,” Underwood said.

The budget had to be amended either because they made more in revenues or had to incur more expenses.

While this is the first budget amendment, it may not be the last of the fiscal year.

The amendment increased the budget from $283,800 to $296,750.

The City Council also:

• Approved the Director of Public Works June reports

• Approved the minutes from the June City Council meeting

• Approved a set back variance at 700 Gibbs St.
