Suspects sought in robbery of postal carrier

The Huntsville Item

Three unidentified, armed males robbed a U.S. Postal Carrier in New Waverly on May 19 around 2:30 p.m., according to a release issued Tuesday by the U.S. Postal Service.

The carrier was delivering mail on her route on 1431 in Walker County when suspects, carrying a gun and a knife, approached her. One suspect held a gun to the carrier’s head and demanded her purse. The carrier received minor cuts to her head and finger when the suspect nicked her when she reached for her purse. The suspects also took her employee badge.

The suspects then slashed the two rear tires on the carrier’s vehicle and fled the scene in an older model Dodge truck. The carrier drove to a nearby residence to get help.

Inspector Vanessa Kimbrough said postal inspectors take robberies of postal employees seriously and there is a standing offer of $50,000 for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone who robbed or attempted to rob a post office or letter carrier.

The robbery of a postal employee could result in up to 25 years in prison and other severe penalties. To report information on this crime, call Kimbrough at (713) 238-4440
