A 58-year-old Phelps woman accused of the homicide of her mother-in-law was taken into custody Wednesday morning at the Walker County Jail.
According to emergency management coordinator Butch Davis with the Walker County Sheriff’s Department, Lynn Alice Brummett was arrested after 63-year-old Rosalyn D. Brummett was discovered dead in the Watson Lake area.
Following her arrest, Brummett was charged with murder, a first degree felony.
“A unit from the sheriff’s department was dispatched to the Watson Lake area Tuesday night at approximately 6 p.m., and after initial investigations, it was determined that we had a homicide,” Davis said. “The victim was identified as Rosalyn Brummett, and after additional investigation, it was determined that her daughter-in-law, Lynn Brummett, was a suspect in the case.”
Davis said Lynn Brummett admitted to the homicide shortly after authorities arrived, and she was booked into the Walker County Jail shortly thereafter.
“While Lynn Brummett admitted to the homicide, we’re still trying to determine what actually caused the incident,” Davis said. “There were no witnesses to the event, so we’re going to have to work more on determining the cause.”
In addition to the sheriff’s department, Davis said the Texas Rangers also assisted on scene.
“Updates will be available as our investigation continues,” he said.
