HISD to consider cutting two positions

By Kristin Edwards
Staff Reporter

Several employees of the Huntsville Independent School District may see their positions terminated when the district’s board of trustees meet tonight.

The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Hawkins Administration Building.

During the meeting, trustees will discuss a reduction in force and the termination of employees affected by the reduction of force.

Administrative positions, including the director of Career and Technology Education, currently held by James Chumley, and the secondary attendance specialist position, are among those being considered for termination.

In addition, the board will canvass results from Saturday’s board of trustee elections and administer the oath of office to an incumbent and newcomer to the board.

Pamela Baggett will join the seven-member board in Position 5 after defeating incumbent Glenn Green.

Incumbent Karin Olsen Williams was re-elected to a second term in Position 4.

The board will also elect officers, including a president, vice president and secretary.

In other action, the board will:

• consider approval of an agreement with the Huntsville Family YMCA to provide a summer program;

• consider approval of the 2008-09 After School and School’s Out Child Care agreement with the YMCA;

• consider approval of the agreement with the Boys and Girls Club of Walker County for the 2008-09 school year;

• consider board approval of personnel related items;

• consider approval of a bid for athletic/physical education supplies and equipment; and

• consider approval of bids for awards, rewards, incentives and spirit items.

The next two regular meetings of the board will be held June 19 and July 17.
