After Saturday’s City Council and school district trustee elections, the New Waverly City Council will include a slightly different group of members.
In addition, John Holland succeeded in his campaign for school district trustee Position 2 against write-in candidate Kerman Sykes, and five additional candidates were also voted onto the board.
In the City Council elections, six candidates sought four at large positions on the ballot.
While City Council incumbents Vince Paulsel and Nathaniel James prevailed in the elections, newcomers Mike Kilgore and Allen Koonce were the other candidates who won the remaining two at large positions on the council.
Incumbent Jacob Slott and candidate Cynthia Vance were not among the city councilmember candidates who won positions on the council.
Paulsel and Koonce received 108 total votes each, or 19.12 percent of the votes cast, including the votes cast on election day and during the seven-day early voting period.
Only 47 of the votes for Paulsel were collected during early voting, and an additional 61 votes were cast for him on Saturday
Koonce received 54 votes both during early voting and on election day.
James received 105 votes — 18.58 percent of the votes cast — of which 62 were cast on election day and 43 were cast during early voting.
Finally, Kilgore won 16.46 percent of the votes cast — a total of 93 votes — with 62 votes cast on election day and 31 votes from early voting.
Slott received a total of 77 votes, and Vance received a total of 74 votes.
In the New Waverly Independent School District trustee elections, three incumbents sought re-election to the board with one contested race for Position 2.
Holland won 468 of the 532 votes cast for Position 2 on the board, meaning only 12.03 percent of voters opted for Sykes.
James Gregory and Joyce Goffney, who hold Positions 1 and 3, respectively, were unopposed.
Gregory has served on the board since May 2005 and Goffney since May 1991.
