Huntsville voters to decide races

Voters in the City of Huntsville and the Huntsville Independent School District go to the polls today to decide three contested races.
Voting hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
According to the Walker County Voter Registrar’s office, there are 14,158 registered voters in the city for today’s election and 25,448 registered voters in the Huntsville ISD election.
Early voting ended Tuesday with 258 ballots cast on the final day and 877 ballots cast during the nine-day period.
Voter interest increased Monday when 120 ballots were cast, bringing the eight-day total to 619 ballots cast in the city and school elections.
Monday’s figure was the highest single-day total since April 29 when 102 ballots were cast.
The second highest single-day total is 89, occurring April 30.
Five candidates are seeking two positions on the Huntsville Independent School District board of trustees ballot.
Incumbent Karin Olson Williams seeks re-election to Position 4. She is opposed by Steve Fisher.
Position 5 incumbent Glenn Green is opposed by Pamela Baggett and Ron Keeler.
Williams and Green are both completing their first three-year terms in office.
The four at large positions on the nine-member Huntsville City council are on the ballot with only one contested race.
The lone contested race is for councilmember at large, Position 4, with Ray Martin opposing Lanny Ray.
Incumbent Jack Choate is not seeking a fourth two-year term.
Councilmembers Dalene Zender and Melissa Mahaffey are both unopposed in seeking re-election to at large Positions 1 and 2, respectively.
Charles Forbus is unopposed on the ballot for Position 3, currently held by Mickey Evans.

Precinct 102, Ward 1 — Walker County Courthouse Annex, 1301 Sam Houston Avenue.
Precinct 201, Ward 2 — First Presbyterian Church, 1801 19th St.
Precinct 205, Ward 4 — Elkins Lake Recreation Corp., 634 Cherry Hills.
Precinct 206, Ward 2 — Region VI Education Building, 3332 Montgomery Road.
Precinct 301, Ward 3 — Martin Luther King Jr. Center, 300 MLK Blvd.
Precinct 401, Ward 4 — University Heights Baptist Church, 2400 Sycamore Ave.
Polling places inside Huntsville for the HISD election are:
