Huntsville businessman dies in crash

The Huntsville Item

A 48-year-old Huntsville man was killed and the driver of a second vehicle was injured early Friday afternoon in a collision on a rain-slickened highway in Grimes County.

David Alan Peters, co-owner of Team Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep dealerships in Huntsville and Navasota, died at 12:35 p.m., according to a report filed by Department of Public Safety Trooper Richard Cook of Anderson.

The crash occurred at 12:26 p.m. — 0.7 miles southwest of Anderson on state Highway 90 — when Peters from returning to Huntsville from Navasota.

Peters, who was a member of the New Waverly Independent School District board of trustees, was pronounced dead at the scene by Grimes County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace John LeFlore.

His body was taken to Lindley, Robertson and Holt Funeral Home in Navasota.

According to Cook’s report, Peters was traveling southbound on Highway 90 in a 2006 Chrysler in rainy conditions.

A 1996 International Pro Sleeper driven by Marco Antonio Lopez, 36, of Dallas was northbound on Highway 90.

Peters’ four-door car hydroplaned on the wet roadway, according to the report.

Peters lost control of the car and veered into oncoming traffic, striking Lopez’s tractor-trailer rig.

Lopez was injured in the crash. He was listed in stable condition lacerations at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Navasota.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Cook was assisted by Trooper John Dominguez of Hempstead, the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office, Anderson and Navasota fire departments and the Texas Department of Transportation.
