Late entries for The Walker County Fair parade will be accepted until noon today.
“We have 76 entries as of right now; it's going to be a very large parade,” co-chairman Tammy Winkler said. “We're not going to turn anyone away, but for them to actually be in the script, because it has to go out to KSAM and KSTAR, I've got to have them no later than noon Thursday.”
The entry fee is $5 and forms can be picked up at Heartfield Florist on Sam Houston Avenue or downloaded on the Walker County Fair Web site.
Many local businesses and organizations will be part of the parade this year.
“I have officials seeking election signed up, The Huntsville Cruisers, Liberty Tax Service, Community Service Credit Union, all of the queens, Huntsville Memorial Hospital, HISD maintenance, High school cheerleaders, C Slott Gymnastics, Heritage Champions Academy, Relay for Life Northside Baptist Prayer Walkers, the Texan Café, Cook Springs Baptist Church and all fire departments from Huntsville, New Waverly, Dodge, Riverside and Thomas Lake Road,” Winkler said.
Winkler said other participants will be the 4-H Lamb Club, the Junior FFA and High school FFA of Huntsville, and the Boys and Girls Club.
The fair officials will also ride in the parade, along with rodeo clowns, county and city officials and fire trucks.
There will be a contest for the floats and awards will be handed out.
“We have a very good variety for this year's parade,” she said.
Winkler said the lineup for the parade begins at 5:30 p.m. on 19th Street and the parade will begin at 7 p.m. Participants will make their way down Sam Houston Avenue to 11th Street. The parade will stop at McKenzie's Bar-B-Que and Tractor Supply Company off of 11th Street.
