Deadlines nearing for Academic Rodeo

By Maegan McGowen
Item Correspondent

Entry deadlines for the Walker County Fair Association Academic Rodeo are due by mail before March 17. On-site registration will be from 5-6 p.m. March 29.

Registration forms and information packets can be picked up at any kindergarten through eighth grade Huntsville or New Waverly ISD campus.

“The participants will include students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade from public and private schools in Walker County,” Leigh Anne Klawinsky, second-grade teacher at New Waverly Elementary and organizer of the event, said.

The entry fee for each event will be $1, and the events include the essay contest, math bee, spelling bee and craft contest.

The Academic Rodeo is March 31 from 6-9 p.m. in the main building at the Walker County Fairgrounds.

“The craft project theme is to make a “family or fair” memory using recyclable materials. The essays are to be written with the same theme in mind,” Klawinsky said.

The winners in each category will receive a $50 savings bond sponsored by American Bank of Huntsville.
