Employment workshop series set by library

By Matthew Jackson
Staff Reporter

The Huntsville Public Library, in cooperation with Workforce Solutions, will host a free Employment Workshop Series for Walker County residents beginning on Jan. 8.

The series of six workshops will be held on the first and third Thursdays in January, February and March, with each session lasting from 2:30-4 p.m.

Each session will be held at Huntsville City Hall in the City Hall Conference Room, except for the Feb. 12 session, which will be held in the City Hall Council Chambers.

“The Huntsville Public Library is very pleased to partnering with Workforce Solutions in Huntsville and Conroe to present a series of employment workshops to anyone in the area looking for a job,” said Denise Tilson of the Huntsville Public Library.

The workshops will be presented as a chronological series detailing the job hunting process. Kristin Cole of Workforce Solutions, a Texas Workforce Commission partner, will present the workshops.

Workshop one will focus on how to evaluate our skills and develop a job-hunting plan, and will detail effective ways to look for a job and developing goals for a job search.

Workshop two will focus on network and will teach how to discover jobs that are not advertised and how to develop a list of helpful contacts.

Workshop three will cover creating an effective resume and completing a job application.

Workshop four will detail how to create references as well as writing effective thank you and cover letters to potential employers.

Workshop five will cover how to develop effective interviewing techniques and appropriate responses to common interview questions.

The sixth and final workshop will focus on the Internet as an effective tool in job searches, and will detail how to research the labor market in order to identify employment opportunities

Although they are presented as a series, each workshop can also be viewed independently.

Organizers of the event are requesting that anyone interested in participating contact the library to register, but stress that this is not mandatory.

Anyone seeking more information is urged to contact Tilson at the library at (936) 291-5471.
