Food drive to be held in Bedias

Sandra Stapleton
The Huntsville Item

There will be a county-wide food drive on Nov. 4 to supply the county food pantries. Drop off points will be at Bedias Civic Center, Roans Prairie Store (Highway 30 and Highway 90), and the Shiro Store from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. All donations collected will remain in Grimes county for Grimes county residents. Food collected at these three drop-off points will remain in Bedias.

Janet Green of Green & Associates Realtors in Bedias is accepting donations of nonperishable items, toiletries, paperback books, crossword puzzle books, etc. during the month of October to be sent to the troops in Iraq.

Plans are underway for the Veteran’s Day Dinner sponsored by the Bedias Women’s Club. It will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11. For reservations and more information, contact Gerrie Eiring at (936) 395-0424, Nicki Thomson at (936) 395-8045 or Debbie Goldstein at (936) 395-0383. I am sure this will be a great evening again this year.

Once again this year the Bedias Civic Club will sponsor a Christmas Parade, Pancake Breakfast, Holiday Home Tour and Chili Lunch. The date is Saturday, Dec. 16. I will have more information as the date approaches.

The next meeting of the Bedias Civic Club will be on Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. with a Chili Supper available by donation. The program will be a Candidate’s Forum for the Nov. 7 election.

Early voting in person for the upcoming general election begins Oct. 23 and ends Friday, Nov. 3 at the Court House in Anderson.

Kenneth Preble, Melba Shields and Matt Bracewell celebrate their birthday on the 22nd, Cameron Marshall and Johnathan McCoy on the 24th, Tammy Harvey and Dustin Cook on the 25th and Henry M. Hargrave on the 29th. Best wishes to all of you for a wonderful day and a blessed year.

We extend our sympathy and condolences to the family of Janice Landers. Mrs. Landers passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra May, grandson, Rob May and granddaughter, Leslie Landers. Mrs. Landers celebrated her 85th birthday at the Bedias Talent Show on Sept. 8. She was preceded in death by her husband, Zolan Landers and son, Mark Landers. We also extend our sympathy and condolences to the family and friends of Jack Taylor, long-time Bedias resident. Mr. Taylor passed away on Thursday, Oct. 12.

Please keep the Landers and Taylor families in your prayers in their loss and continue to pray for the family of Sharon Harrell, Robert and Margie Jackson, Bert and Pauline Van Breeman, Lou Weaver, Steve Acord, the Dean family, our community, our country and especially our military.
