Car wash fundraiser

American Bank, located on 11th Street across from Auto Zone, will host a car wash today from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to benefit Fabian Alexander Barahona, a ventilator-dependent quadriplegic 11-year-old boy who sustained his injuries in a 2003 collision with an 18-wheeler on state Highway 190. Direct donations to the Fabian Alexander Barahona medical fund are available through Bank of America.



Senior Center gala

The Senior Center of Walker County will hold its second annual gala today at the Walker County Fairgrounds from 6-9 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person or $150 for a table of 10. Labor Day barbeque

The Thomas Lake Road Volunteer Fire Department will hold a barbeque on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be sliced brisket, sausage and all the trimmings. There will be a cake auction at 12:30 p.m. The cost is $7 for adults, $3.50 for children ages 6-10, children under 6 are free. All proceeds will benefit the volunteer fire department.

Music lessons

Square dance lessons pre-registration

Pre-registration for square dance lessons will be Tuesday through the first event on Sept. 22. Square dances are smoke free and alcohol free. It helps to have a partner, but singles are also welcome. Lessons will be held on Monday at 7 p.m. at the Tri-County Services Building, 7045 Highway 75 South (about 1/2 mile south of McCoys). The lessons are sponsored by The Huntsville Promenaders Square Dance Club, and the first two introductory lessons are free of charge.
