FUMC Weekday Ministries for children
Weekday Ministries for children at First United Methodist Church Huntsville is now accepting enrollment for infants (six weeks) through pre-kindergarten and after school care for kindergarten through fourth grade from Huntsville Elementary schools. Full-time, year-round care is provided Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Weekly activities, such as chapel and library along with field trips, occur throughout the year. Registration is also now open for Camp Sonlight, our summer program for kindergarten through fourth grade. Swimming, chapel, library, crafts and local field trips are included with registration. Huntsville Community Theatre presents ‘Always, Patsy Cline’
Huntsville Community Theater will present “Always, Patsy Cline,” March 20-22 and 27-29 at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee at 2 p.m. on March 30 at the Old Town Theatre, 1023 12th street. Huntsville Book Review Club Meeting
The Huntsville Book Review Club will meet on Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the Old Town Theatre. Susan Boone will review “The Train to Estelline” by Jane Roberts Wood. This is a story of a young girl of 18 who leaves her home in Bonham, Texas, to become a school teacher in the West Texas town of Estelline. The story tells of her adventures, determination to succeed as a teacher against many obstacles set in her path, and of her falling in love. For more information, contact Carol Brooks.

‘The Cemetery Club’ auditions
Huntsville Community Theatre Auditions for the comedy “The Cemetery Club” by Ivan Menchell, will be on Monday and March 25 at 6:30 p.m. at The Old Town Theatre. TIFA to hold meeting
The Texas Inmate Families Association (TIFA), Conroe chapter, will meet Monday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Montgomery County Library, 104 IH-45 N in Conroe. (Northbound Gladstell exit, southbound 105 exit). Anyone who has a loved one incarcerated in or on parole from the Texas prison system is invited to attend. Membership information will be available at this meeting. This chapter assisted the areas of North Houston/Harris County, Montgomery and surrounding counties. HMH hosts Colorectal Cancer discussion
March is colorectal cancer awareness month, and Huntsville Memorial Hospital will hold a panel discussion beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the HMH conference rooms. Colorectal cancer is the third most common form of cancer but can be easily detected with regular checkups. Hear from a cancer survivor and visit with doctors David Ficklen, Charles Monday and Maria Sosa to discuss risks and testing options. RSVP to (936) 291-4599.

Elementary school choir concert
On Thursday, the five elementary schools in Huntsville will come together for a choir concert at Mance Park Middle School, at 6:30 p.m. Each elementary school music teacher has chosen their top 20 third and fourth grade choir students to represent their school, and to perform together. The name of the concert is “I Wish You Music.”

Project After-Prom meeting
There will be a Project After-Prom parent meeting Thursday at 5:30 p.m. on the 4th floor in the Conference Room at First National Bank.

Sam Houston Cancer Center hosts Chamber Business After Hours

Walker County Fair Association presents calf scramble
The Walker County Fair Association will present the 2008 Walker County Fair and Rodeo Calf Scramble on March 28 and 29 at the Walker County Fairgrounds at 7:30 p.m. The deadline to sign up is March 27. Participants must be 12 years old, but not older than 18 during the 2009 WCF, an active 4-H or FFA member, show proof of passing grades and UIL eligibility, parental signature permission and have a place to keep and raise a heifer. Walker County Retired Teachers Association meeting
The meeting date for Walker County Retired Teachers Association has been changed to March 28 at the HISD Transportation Building meeting room. All members and interested guests are invited to attend the social gathering at 9:30 a.m., followed by a SHSU Preview of Spring musical performance. Refreshments will be served.

HHS Basketball banquet
The HHS Boys and Girls Basketball Banquet will be held on March 28 in the Community Room at West Hill Mall. Tickets are on sale at the high school from Coach Anderson or Coach Gabbard and are $10 each with players being free. There is limited seating so get your tickets early. This year’s banquet will be semi-formal and the athletes are required to wear a coat and/or tie for guys and slacks or dresses for the girls. Please no jeans. Country Star auditions
Entry forms are now available for the Country Star music competition that will be featured at the 2008 Walker County Fair. Entry deadline is Monday, March 24. Participants must be age 13 or older and a resident of Walker County. Country Star auditions will take place March 29 at 1 p.m. in the Committeeman’s Room at the fairgrounds. Songs are chosen on a first-come, first-serve basis and audition spots are limited. Entry forms are available at Fat Boys, Cavenders, Baskins, Bank of America, Eagle Graphics and Town and Country Cleaners. Forms should be submitted to Town and Country Cleaners.

Walker County Fair Association Academic Rodeo
The Walker County Fair Academic Rodeo will be held on March 31 from 6-9 p.m. in the main building at the Walker County Fairgrounds. The events include an essay contest, math bee, and spelling bee. On-site registration will be held from 5-6 p.m. March 29. You can pick up registration forms and information packets at any kindergarten through eighth grade Huntsville or New Waverly ISD campus. Blood Drive
The Education Service Center, Region VI, will host a blood drive on Monday, March 31, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Montgomery Room at 3332 Montgomery Rd. All donors, as well as those attempting to donate, will recieve a T-shirt. Donors must be at least 17 years of age and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds or 16 years of age, and weight 122 pounds, with parental consent. Photo identification will be required. Order of the Eastern Star Annual Bunny Breakfast fundraiser
Order of the Eastern Star of Willis No. 1017 will hold its annual Bunny Breakfast fundraiser on April 5 from 8-11 a.m. at the Willis Community Center located at 106 Mink. Mr. David Branch 20th Annual Trail Ride
Celebrate the home-going of a “cowboy legend” at the Mr. David Branch 20th Annual Trail Ride April 18-19. The trail ride will take place at the ranch of Mr. David Branch in Crabbs Prairie, on Moffett Spring Road in Huntsville. The gate fee is $10 for the weekend and for children under 12 admission is free.
